In the fall of 1983, I joined the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky for the first time as an Army Private, attended Air Assault School and was assigned to my first unit (Charlie Company 311th Military Intelligence Battalion. Unknowingly at the time it was just the beginning of a long career with the Screaming Eagles. After a brief tour in Germany, I again joined the 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) in the summer of 1989, as a Motor Sergeant and was assigned to Charlie Company 801st Maintenance Battalion. Later that summer in early September 1989, we would deploy to Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and C CO 801st was attached to support the 3/187th Infantry Battalion (RAKKASANS) defending Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. After we returned home, I was reassigned to the Headquarters 801st Maintenance Battalion as the S4. In 1993, I was transferred to Korea, only to return to the 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) again in 1994, where I was assigned to the DISCOM Headquarters S4 (Lifeliners), as the Senior Maintenance NCO. In 1996, I was selected to serve as the First Sergeant of the newly formed Bravo Company 626th Forward Support Battalion (FSB)(Assurgam) in support of the RAKKASANS, which was formally (C CO 801st Maintenance Battalion). In 1998, I again returned to the DISCOM (Lifeliners) as the S4 Logistics NCOIC. In the fall of 2000, I returned to Korea, and after the horrid attacks of 9/11, I returned once again to the mighty 101st ABN DIV (AASLT)., where I would be assigned to the DISCOM S4 (Lifeliners) in support of the 101st deploying to Kuwait. In the spring of 2002, I would report to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, at Fort Bliss Texas, and graduate in 2003. I would yet again report to the 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) and be assigned to the Division Headquarters in Mosul, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning to Fort Campbell in 2004, I was selected to be the Command Sergeant Major of the newly formed 626th Brigade Support Battalion (Assurgam) in support of the RAKKASANS. I would then be honored to prepare 1,100 soldiers for deployment in Iraq in 2005-2006. During our tour in Iraq, I was selected by the 101st Commanding General to serve as the Brigade Sergeant Major of the newly formed 101st Sustainment Brigade (Lifeliners). Upon redeployment from Iraq, I would prepare the 101st Sustainment Brigade for deployment to Afghanistan in 2008, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, which would be my final tour with the mighty 101st. In 2008, mid-tour I was selected to serve as the Army Sustainment Command's Command Sergeant Major at Rock Island Arsenal until my retirement in 2012 where my last day on active duty was as a 101st ABN DIV (AASLT) Screaming Eagle. It was only befitting that I dedicate and honor my business and its namesake to the 101st, Screaming Eagles, RAKKASANS, Lifeliners, Assurgam, Soldiers, and Leaders I served with over my entire career. This was my Rendezvous with Destiny.
